Description

A comforting and cheesy dish featuring manicotti stuffed with a delicious cheese mixture and topped with a flavorful meat sauce.


Ingredients

  • 12 manicotti shells
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté chopped onions and minced garlic until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef and brown, draining excess fat.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, sugar, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
  6. To assemble, spread a layer of meat sauce in a baking dish.
  7. Stuff manicotti shells with the cheese mixture using a piping bag.
  8. Arrange stuffed shells in the baking dish and top with remaining meat sauce, then sprinkle with extra mozzarella.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
