- 12 manicotti shells
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté chopped onions and minced garlic until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and brown, draining excess fat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, sugar, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
- To assemble, spread a layer of meat sauce in a baking dish.
- Stuff manicotti shells with the cheese mixture using a piping bag.
- Arrange stuffed shells in the baking dish and top with remaining meat sauce, then sprinkle with extra mozzarella.
- Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
