Delicious bars combining the classic flavors of apple pie and salted caramel in a buttery crust.
Ingredients

- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 3–4 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed (for caramel)
- ½ cup heavy cream (for caramel)
- 1 teaspoon sea salt (for caramel)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, melted butter, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until crumbly, then press into a greased 8×8 inch baking dish. Bake for 10 minutes and let cool.
- Toss sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Spread over the cooled crust and bake for 20–25 minutes.
- In a saucepan, melt granulated sugar over medium heat until golden. Stir in butter, then slowly add heavy cream, whisking constantly. Remove from heat and add sea salt.
- Pour the caramel over the baked apple filling and return to the oven for 10 minutes.
- Let cool completely before slicing into squares.
Notes
Store in an airtight container. Keeps in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
