Description

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and set aside.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy—about 4 minutes.
  4. Add in the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  5. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until you have a smooth batter.
  6. Divide the batter into 6 bowls, one for each color.
  7. Add food coloring to each bowl to achieve vibrant colors.
  8. Layer the colored batter in cupcake liners, starting with purple and ending with red.
  9. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Cool completely before icing and enjoy!
