- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and whisk until well combined.
- Cream the butter and brown sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add molasses, egg, and vanilla to the butter mixture. Mix well until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, combining into a soft dough.
- Chill the dough for about 30 minutes.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Use cookie cutters to create fun shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for about 8-10 minutes, until firm around the edges and soft in the center.
- Cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Decorate with royal icing or powdered sugar glaze.
