Description
A simple and delicious Garlic Herb Dutch Oven Bread that is moist, fluffy, and has a crisp, golden crust.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3–4 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tbsp dried herbs (like rosemary or thyme)
Instructions
- Combine warm water with the yeast in a large mixing bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Whisk together the flour and salt in a separate bowl.
- Stir in the olive oil, minced garlic, and dried herbs into the yeast mixture. Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until you get a sticky dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 2-3 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough gently, shape it into a ball, and let it rest for another 20 minutes.
- Preheat the Dutch oven in the oven at 450°F (230°C) for about 30 minutes.
- Bake the dough: Carefully place it in the preheated Dutch oven, cover, and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the lid and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool the bread on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Experiment with different herbs or add cheese and olives to enhance flavor. Keep an eye on the rising time to ensure the dough doesn’t collapse.
