Description

Juicy meatballs smothered in a rich, savory onion sauce, cooked to perfection in a crockpot.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Thyme and bay leaves
  • Shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese for topping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined and form into 1-inch meatballs.
  2. Optionally, sauté sliced onions in olive oil over medium heat until soft and golden.
  3. Place meatballs in the crockpot, top with sautéed onions (or raw), thyme, bay leaves, soy sauce, and pour in beef broth.
  4. Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or high for 3 to 4 hours until meatballs are cooked through.
  5. Just before serving, sprinkle shredded cheese on top and cover for about 15 minutes until melted.

Notes

Serve on crusty rolls, over spaghetti, or with rice or mashed potatoes.
