Delicious sugar cookies with a vibrant blue color that are as fun to make as they are to eat!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Blue food coloring (gel works best!)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set that oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until fluffy.
- Add the Egg and Vanilla: Mix in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Combine the Dry Ingredients: Toss together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Slowly add this dry mix to your wet mixture.
- Color It Blue: Add a few drops of the blue food coloring and mix until you reach your desired shade of blue.
- Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for about an hour.
- Shape and Bake: Roll the dough into balls, flatten them slightly, and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for about 10-12 minutes.
- Cool Down: Let them cool on the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Decorate or Enjoy Plain: Add icing, sprinkles, or edible glitter as desired.
Notes
Using unsalted butter is key for a rich flavor. Chilling the dough helps maintain cookie shape while baking.
