Ingredients

- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2/3 cup (135g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- Optional: flaky sea salt, powdered sugar, or jam for variety
Instructions
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla until silky.
- Add flour and cocoa, mixing just until dough comes together.
- Roll 1-tablespoon portions into balls and press a thumbprint into each.
- Chill for 15–20 minutes.
- Melt chocolate chips with cream in the microwave, spoon into thumbprints.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes.
- Cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Don’t overfill thumbprints with chocolate, use good quality chocolate for melting, and rotate the pan for even baking.
